Puppies can be bathed starting from three months old. For the safety and health of the puppy, it is essential to complete the immunization program before giving them a bath.

Bathing a young puppy can lead to a cold, which in turn can cause a decrease in immunity. If the puppy’s vaccinations are not complete and their immune system is compromised, they may be susceptible to diseases such as canine distemper, parvovirus, and coronavirus. Therefore, it is recommended to wait one to two weeks after completing the vaccination schedule before giving the puppy a bath.
If the puppy is younger than three months and their fur is very dirty, you can use a dog-specific no-rinse cleansing foam. Apply it evenly to the puppy’s fur, then use a hairdryer on a low setting to dry it while brushing the fur.
How to Properly Bathe a Dog:
1. Brush the Fur: Before bathing, it’s important to brush the dog’s fur to prevent tangles and mats.
2. Prepare Bath Supplies: Gather all necessary supplies including dog shampoo, conditioner, a chamois cloth, and a blow dryer.
3. Control Water Temperature: The water temperature should be between 38°C to 40°C, which is close to the dog’s body temperature. Start by gently pouring water on the dog to help them get used to it. Avoid using cold water directly, as it can scare the dog and potentially cause a cold. Also, ensure the water is not too hot to avoid burning the dog’s skin.
4. Wet the Dog: Gradually wet the dog’s entire body, then apply diluted shampoo evenly and start cleaning. Begin by washing the head and then move to the body. Wash in the direction of hair growth, massaging the skin gently.
5. Clean the Head: Be careful not to let water enter the dog’s ears and eyes, as this can cause discomfort and make the dog resistant to bathing.
6. Clean the Tail and Rear End: Pay special attention to these areas as they can get very dirty. Clean the tail and the base of the tail thoroughly. If necessary, also clean the anal glands to prevent inflammation.
7. Clean the Paws: Ensure to clean between the dog’s toes, as dirt and debris can easily accumulate there.
8. Dry the Fur: After bathing, use a chamois cloth to absorb excess water and then use a blow dryer to thoroughly dry the dog’s fur. Do not leave the dog wet, as this can lead to a cold or skin issues.
By following these steps, you can ensure that your puppy or dog stays clean and healthy.
